Government discusses amendments proposed to the country’s laws on state border and holidays

President Emomali Rahmon, who is also Head of the Government of Tajikistan, held a government session on Friday, May 31, according to the Tajik president’s official website.    

At the beginning of the meeting, the Director of the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation Zafarbek Davlatzoda gave a report on the Program of Development of Land Reclamation and Irrigation designed for 2024-2028.

It was emphasized that the purpose of the adoption of the Program is to take measures related to creating a favorable environment for attracting foreign capital, private sector funds, renovation and restoration of hydro-technical facilities in order to adapt to climate change, sustainable water supply, cleaning of drains, improvement of land reclamation, development of new lands, bringing the lands that have come out of the agricultural cycle into the agricultural cycle, etc.

Emomali Rahmon reportedly instructed the relevant government bodies to ensure the implementation of the Program and its Action Plan within the specified time and with the necessary funds.

Then, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda gave a report on the prospects of the country’s main macroeconomic indicators for 2025-2027.

Emomali Rahmon, instructed the ministries, agencies and local executive bodies to take necessary measures to implement the prospects of the country’s main macroeconomic indicators.

Relevant government bodies were also obligated to ensure the timely implementation of national development programs. 

The meeting participants reportedly also discussed a number of bills and submitted them for consideration to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).  Among them are the bills on  amendments the country’s Customs Code, on amendments to the country’s law on other mandatory payments to the budget, on amendments to the country’s law on the state border, and on amendments to the country’s law on holidays.  

In accordance with the amendments proposed to the law on state border, passengers cross the border line at airports through electronic gates, which simplifies the transit system and saves time for both passengers and border guards.

The purpose of the amendment to the law on holidays is to add the Television Day to the list of holidays in Tajikistan.

Also, the draft Resolution of the Government of Tajikistan “On the Program of Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Persons with an Extremist or Terrorist Past in Tajikistan for 2024-2028” was discussed at the meeting and the relevant decision was adopted.
