Torrential rain on June 11-13 caused mudflows in Sughd province and rockfalls in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

Ms. Umeda Usufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, says torrential rain on June 11 caused mudflows that affected Sarvakht village in Saht district of Sughd province.  The mudflows reportedly damaged 40 personal plots and 12 auxiliary facilities as well as blocked seven kilometers of a rural road.

“The work on elimination of the current situation is under way. The district emergency response commission is working at the mudflow site to assess the actual volume of damage caused to the village,” the spokeswoman said.

According to her, mudflows that affected the village of Oburdon in Sughd’s Kuhistoni Masthoh district on the evening of June 12 damaged three personal plots.

“On the same day, a rockfall hit the village of Khehak in Yazgulam jamoat, Vanj district in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region temporarily blocking the Dushanbe-Kulob-Davoz-Khorog highway, which runs through this village”, said Ms. Yusufi.  “The highway was cleared of rocks and slurry at 00:45 am of June 13 and traffic has been restored.”
