The Dushanbe Police Directorate says a Dushanbe resident Toirsho Katamardov has been detained on suspicion of introducing counterfeit dollar bills into circulation.

According to the Dushanbe Police Directorate press center, he paid off his debt to a resident of Dushanbe with 11 counterfeit 100-dollar banknotes.

During the search of Katamardov, 21 other counterfeit 100-dollar banknotes were reportedly confiscated from him.

“The preliminary investigation has established that the counterfeit dollar bills were brought into Tajikistan by Katamardov’s accomplice from abroad for the purpose of obtaining illegal profit,” the press center said, refraining for giving further details.

Besides, a Dushanbe resident Ibodullo Saidov has reportedly been detained on suspicion of creating counterfeit 50-somoni banknotes.

“Despite the fact that Saidov had already been tried three times and spent a total of more than 25 years in prison, he committed a crime again,” says the Dushanbe Police Directorate press center.
