Pakistani Prime Minister arrives in Dushanbe on an official visit

Pakistani media reports say that at the invitation of President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is undertake an official visit to Dushanbe on July 2-3 July, 2024.

The Foreign Ministyr of Pakistan notes that in Dushanbe, the Prime Minister will meet President Emomali Rahmon, Chairman of Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda and Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda.

The visit is reportedly a part of regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and Tajikistan.  The two sides will engage in wide-ranging discussions on areas of mutual interest to further deepen bilateral cooperation especially in the areas of regional connectivity, trade, people-to-people contacts and energy as well as cooperation on multilateral issues.  The two sides will also sign agreements and MoUs in diverse areas of cooperation, says statement released by Pakistani MFA.

The Express Tribune says Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Kazakhstan for the twin Summits of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State (CHS) and SCO Plus from July 3-4 July in Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana.

He is reportedly accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and other senior members of the cabinet and senior government officials. 

At the SCO Council of Heads of Summit Meeting, the Prime Minister will share Pakistan’s perspective on important regional and global issues and underline the importance Pakistan accords to regional connectivity and cooperation with SCO member countries.

ARY News reports that on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, the premier is expected to meet with various world leaders, including Presidents Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin.

Pakistan MFA notes that Pakistan and Tajikistan are brotherly countries linked through longstanding historical, cultural and religious bonds. These ties are reportedly marked by mutual respect and exceptional cordiality. The two countries have commonality of views on various regional and international issues.
