On Monday July 1, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon  received Ms. Antonella Bassani, Vice President of the Europe and Central Asia Region at the World Bank and the Vice President of the World Bank and Ms. Hela Cheikhrouhou, International Finance Corporation (IFC)'s Vice President for the Middle East, Central Asia, Türkiye, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

According to the Tajik president’s official website side, the parties discussed issues related to Tajikistan's cooperation with the structures of the World Bank Group, including the International Finance Corporation.

"Tajikistan considers the World Bank Group as one of its main partners", Tajik leader stressed at the beginning of the conversation.

It was emphasized that during 30 years of fruitful cooperation, the Bank's financing portfolio from the International Development Association (IDA) and IFC includes more than 190 projects with a total amount of more than 3.2 billion US dollars.

During the meeting, the parties reportedly discussed the negative impact of external factors on Tajikistan’s economy and the growing risks to trade relations in the world markets.

In the course of the talks, issues of expansion of cooperation in the social, energy, industry, agrarian, infrastructure and communication sectors, creation of new jobs and reduction of the number of labor migrants were also considered.

Promotion of the green economy, generation of “green energy”, digitization and introduction of “green” technologies were other important topics of the meeting.

In the continuation of the conversation, Emomali Rahmon, availing the presence of Ms. Cheikhrouhou, expressed the interest of Tajikistan in the active use of cooperation opportunities with the International Financial Corporation.

It was considered necessary to expand relations with the International Financial Corporation for the development of financial markets, energy infrastructure and real sectors of the economy, tourism and services.

During the meeting, the parties reportedly exchanged views on other issues being of mutual of interest.

Tajikistan joined the World Bank in 1993 and the International Development Association in 1994.

IFC — a member of the World Bank Group — is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets.  It works in more than 100 countries, using its capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries.
