On Saturday July 6, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon sent a congratulatory telegram to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Honorable Keir Rodney Starmer, which reads:

"Your Excellency,

“I extend to you my sincere congratulations and best wishes in connection with the indisputable victory of the Labor Party in the elections and your appointment as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

“Tajikistan considers the United Kingdom as its important partner in Western Europe.

“In this context, we are constantly focusing on the development and expansion of multifaceted relations with your country.

“We are committed to the comprehensive strengthening of our cooperation with your country in all areas of mutual interest.

“We are ready to make joint efforts at various levels for the effective promotion of this process.

“I wish you good health and success in your responsible activities, and I wish the friendly people of the United Kingdom lasting peace and stability, ever growing prosperity and progress.

“Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem.”

The Labor Party had won a remarkable 412 of the seats in the British Parliament's 650-seat House of Commons.  The Conservatives held only 121, a massive hemorrhaging of support for the party that swept the last election in 2019.  As the leader of the majority party in the House of Commons, Starmer was appointed as prime minister by Charles III on July 5, 2024, becoming the first Labor prime minister since Gordon Brown and the first one to win a general election since Tony Blair.

Sir Keir Rodney Starmer (born September 2, 1962) is a British politician and barrister who has served as leader of the Labor Party since 2020.  He previously served as Leader of the Opposition from 2020 to 2024.  He has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Holborn and St Pancras since 2015, and previously was Director of Public Prosecutions from 2008 to 2013.
