Over the first six months of this year, Tajikistan has produced a total of 22.6 billion somonis worth of industrial goods, which 2.3 billion somonis more than in the same period last year, the Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Sherali Kabir, told reporters in Dushanbe on August 1. 

According to him, compared to the first half of last year the index of the volume of production of industrial goods has amounted to 111.5 percent.  

“In terms of the industry growth rate, Tajikistan was second among the CIS member nations, behind only Armenia, where the industrial growth rate was more than 22 percent,” the minister said.  

Over the past two years, Tajikistan has been the leader in this indicator.  

The manufacturing industry has reportedly accounted for more than 57 percent of a total volume of industrial goods produced over the reporting period.

Mining has accounted for 21.6 percent of a total volume of industrial goods produced over the same six-month period, electricity, natural gas and steam supplies and air purification – 20.8 percent, and water treatment and supply – 0.5 percent.  

Over the reporting period, there was 2.2-fold increase in production of petroleum products, 81-percent increase in production of wood and paper products, 18.1-percent increase in production of metal products, 17.8-percent increase in production of textiles and leather products, 16.4-percent increase in production of rubber and plastic products, and 8.1-percent increase in production of food industry goods.  

According to Sherali Kabir, 4.42 billion somonis have been invested in the country’s industrial sector over the first half of this year. 

A totaled reportedly included 3.19 billion invested in the energy sector, 616.5 million somonis invested in the manufacturing industry, and 423 million somonis invested in mining.

“251 new industrial enterprises have been established in Tajikistan over the first six months of this year,” the minister added.
