From August 11 to 17, a regular meeting of topographic working groups and working groups on legal issues of the government delegations of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border between the two countries took place in Batken, Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to Khovar, with reference to the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of the Republic of Tajikistan, the parties exchanged proposals on describing the passage of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border line in the remaining sections. Following the meeting, a corresponding protocol was signed.

Work on defining the border line will continue at the next meeting, which will be held on the territory of Tajikistan.

Recall that by mutual agreement of the parties, meetings of representatives of the two countries on the demarcation and delimitation of the border are held alternately in both countries, the details of these meetings are not disclosed. The previous meeting of the working groups took place in early July, at the same time, the head of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov and the Kyrgyz Republic Kamchybek Tashiyev held talks.

The length of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border is 972 km. Negotiations on its delimitation intensified last autumn – in a few months the parties agreed on more than 150 km of the common border line. However, it is not known how many kilometers of the border remain to be agreed by the parties today. In February of this year, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, at a meeting with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev, said that the parties had identified about 90% of the border line for today.

In turn, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov had previously expressed hope that all work on the delimitation of the border between the two countries would be completed by March this year. However, negotiations are still ongoing.
