Today, 21.2% of Tajikistan's population, or about 2 million people, are considered poor (poor).

This was announced by Jamshed Nurmakhmadzoda, Director of the Statistics Agency of the Republic.

He noted that the poverty rate in the country has decreased from 80% in the 1990s to 21.2% in 2023.

In the last ten years alone (2014-2023), the poverty rate in Tajikistan has decreased by more than 10 percentage points, that is, from 32% to 21.2%.

According to the Agency's analysis, there are more poor people in rural areas. So, in 2019, the poverty rate in cities was 18.4%, and in rural areas 30.1% (this is the latest data from such a study).
