Revenues of the Communications Service units have sharply increased in Tajikistan

The revenues of the national telecom operator Tajiktelecom, SUE Pochtai Tojik and other divisions of the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan for the six months of this year amounted to about 124 million somoni ($11.6 million). This is 35.5% more than in the same period of 2023, the Statistics Agency of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.

Revenues increased mainly due to long-distance and international telephone services (by 61.5%) and the Internet (29.0%).

Revenues of private telecom operators also increased by 8.4% in relatively smaller volumes. In the first half of this year, they earned about 2 billion somoni ($186 million).

The share of private operators in the communications market of the republic in the first half of this year amounted to 94.1%.

According to the RT Communications Service, at the beginning of the second half of this year, the number of Internet users in the country amounted to over 4.3 million subscribers, and mobile users – about 6.8 million subscribers, of which 3.3 million are active.

Thus, in general, the revenues of Tajikistan's telecom operators in the first half of this year amounted to over 2.1 billion somoni ($197 million), which is 9.6% more than in the same period of 2023.

Meanwhile, in the updated Worldwide mobile data pricing ranking, Tajikistan is among the countries with the highest cost of mobile Internet, while being among the countries with the lowest speed.

The republic ranks 142^nd in the world with an average price of $1.65 per 1 GB. For comparison: Kyrgyzstan is on the 8^th place ($0.17), Uzbekistan is on the 22^nd ($0.30), Kazakhstan is on the 35^th ($0.41).

In the July Speedtest Global Index ranking, Tajikistan ranks 143^rd in terms of mobile Internet speed, and 125^th among 162 countries in terms of fixed broadband Internet speed. Kazakhstan ranks 56^th and 94^th respectively, Kyrgyzstan – 66^th and 85^th, Uzbekistan – 74^th and 82^nd places.
