Press release

On August 27, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan Toshihiro Aiki, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Tajikistan Shermuhammad Shohiyon, as a representative of the President of the country, and Chairman of the city of Nurak Firuza Sharifi took part in the completion ceremony of the "Project for the construction of a new school building No. 9".

The ceremony in the village of Energetik was also attended by representatives of local authorities, teachers, students and residents of the village and the city.

A grant in the amount of $97,541 was allocated for the implementation of the project within the framework of the Japanese Government's program for gratuitous assistance to the general public and humanitarian Security (GGP).

Prior to the implementation of the project, students had to study in unfavorable conditions. The school building, built in 1956, accommodated 1,200 students. Due to the lack of educational facilities, most classrooms were overcrowded, and some students were forced to go to neighboring schools, which are 3 km away.

As part of the project, a new school building with 6 classrooms was built. The project solved the problem and allowed more than 1,700 students to study at School No. 9 in comfortable, safe and spacious conditions.

Toshihiro Aiki noted that for more than 30 years since Tajikistan gained independence, Japan has provided assistance to the Tajik people as a good friend in a wide range of areas, and education is one of the most important areas of bilateral cooperation between the countries.

The Government of Japan's General Public Assistance and Humanitarian Security (GGP) programs are provided primarily to local authorities, educational and medical institutions, and international NGOs in developing countries. Since 1996, within the framework of the GC, Japan has supported 464 humanitarian projects totaling $38.2 million aimed at the development of the republic, including 150 projects in the field of education.
