The Government of Tajikistan, by its resolution, instructed to recognize the tax debts of OJSC “Tajiktelecom” and the State Unitary Enterprise “Center for Electromagnetic Compatibility and Radio Monitoring” of the Communications Service as hopeless and write them off.

We are talking about arrears in taxes, fines and interest incurred before January 1, 2024.

Thus, the national telecom operator “Tajiktelecom” is forgiven debts in the amount of almost 97.5 million somoni ($9.2 million). In particular, taxes in the amount of 56.8 million somoni and interest and fines – 40.7 million somoni are written off.

The total amount of written-off debts of the State Unitary Enterprise “Center for Electromagnetic Compatibility and Radio Monitoring” of the Communications Service is about 37.5 million somoni ($3.5 million), including 22.4 million somoni in taxes and 15 million somoni in interest and fines.

That is, as a result of the sum of $12.7 million ($9.2 million and $3.5 million), the country's budget is being deprived.

It should be noted that in Tajikistan, tax debts of enterprises owned by the government are periodically written off or deferred in various ways.

For example, in the first half of this year, tax arrears in the amount of $18.5 million were forgiven to OJSC “Tajiktransgaz”, whose sole shareholder is the government. Tax debts of OJSC “Sugdien”, which is owned by the Agency for State Material Reserves under the Government, were also written off.

The debts of OJSC “Barqi Tojik” are also periodically forgiven, the full package of which is also owned by the government.

There have also been cases when the government defrauded the debts of enterprises that belong to government departments. Such enterprises include, for example, the same OJSC “Tajiktelecom”.

Meanwhile, according to official statistics, the revenues of OJSC “Tajiktelecom”, SUE “Pochtai Tojik” and other divisions of the Communications Service increased by 35.5% in the first half of this year, amounting to 124 million somoni ($11.6 million).
