Two suspects have been detained in the Tajik northern city of Konibodom in connection with the mysterious murder of Amrullo Boymirzoyev, a young resident of the Mastchoh district.  This information was confirmed to Asia-Plus by the victim's father, Narzullo Boymirzoyev.

A 21-year-old Amrullo Boymirzoyev, who worked at a cotton ginning plant in the Patar jamoat, was reportedly killed on the night of October 22-23.

Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, was the first to report the incident, stating that Amrullo was reportedly sleeping at his workplace when unknown individuals killed him.

Radio Ozodi, citing a source familiar with the case, reported on October 24 that Amrullo Boymirzoyev was strangled with a rope.  “He had just become a father 20 days prior and never had the chance to experience fatherhood fully,” the source said.

Amrullo was laid to rest on October 24 in his home community of Obburdon.

On the morning of October 28, Amrullo’s father, Narzullo Boymirzoyev, informed Asia-Plus that he had been notified by local law enforcement of the suspects’ arrests.  “I was told two people have been detained in connection with my son’s death.  They are residents of Konibodom, but I’m not certain they are the actual killers.  I am currently on my way to Konibodom to clarify the situation," said Narzullo Boymirzoyev, who heads the agriculture department in Mastchoh district.

Attempts to reach law enforcement officials from Konibodom and the Sughd province for comment were unsuccessful, as all efforts to obtain information were met with silence.

This case is not the only mysterious murder in Konibodom.  Since April of this year, at least five similar cases have been recorded, causing alarm among local residents, who report masked individuals wandering the streets at night.

Six months after these killings began, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan finally commented, stating, "There is nothing extraordinary; these are ordinary murders."

At an August 8 press conference, Abdurahmon Alamshozoda, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, reported that there were four murder cases in Konibodom, two of which were related to family conflicts.  The suspects in these cases have been detained, and “the criminal cases have been referred to a court.”  However, Alamshozoda did not specify the total number of fatalities or arrests related to these cases.
