Tajikistan plans to expedite the approval process for migration-related documents during its chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2025. TASS says Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda announced this at the CIS Council of Heads of Government meeting in Moscow on December 12.

He emphasized that migration and labor regulation would be key areas of cooperation among CIS countries.

"Efforts will be made to accelerate the approval of long-discussed projects, including the concept of a phased formation of a common labor market and the regulation of labor migration in CIS member states, as well as an agreement on mutual recognition of labor migrants’ documents within the CIS," Rasoulzoda stated.

Some media outlets noted that the prime ministers discussed the expansion of trade and economic cooperation amid sanctions pressure.

The meeting’s agenda reportedly also included issues related to cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the CIS member nations.

The next CIS Council of Heads of Government meeting is proposed for May 30, 2025, in Dushanbe.

By tradition, the CIS Council of Heads of Government meets twice a year, with extraordinary sessions convened at the initiative of one of the member states' governments.
