Iranian media reports say Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the upcoming official visit of President Masoud Pezeshkian to Tajikistan is a good opportunity for further expansion of Tehran-Dushanbe relations.
IRNA reports that the top Iranian diplomat made the remarks at a meeting with Alireza Haghighian, Iran's Ambassador to Tajikistan, in Tehran on January 6.
Haghighian reportedly presented a report on the latest state of relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries and the plans made for the successful completion of the upcoming visit of the president.
Referring to the important and privileged position of Tajikistan in Iran’s foreign policy due to the existence of deep historical, cultural-civilizational and linguistic ties between the two nations, as well as the existence of many capacities to expand bilateral cooperation in the economic and commercial fields and other fields, Abbas Araghchi considered President Pezeshkian's visit to Tajikistan as a great opportunity to expand cooperation between the two countries as much as possible and emphasized the need taking all the necessary measures to make the most of this opportunity.
An official source within Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry told Asia-Plus that the visit would include not only meetings between the two leaders but also other discussions, negotiations, and the signing of various agreements.
The delegation will also include a group of high-ranking Iranian entrepreneurs who will discuss cooperation opportunities with their Tajik counterparts, the source added.
This will mark President Pezeshkian’s first official visit to Tajikistan.
Recall, Iranian media reports had previously said that President Masoud Pezeshkian received invitations from his Russian and Tajik counterparts, Vladimir Putin and Emomali Rahmon, to visit the two countries in mid-January.
IRNA reports that Mehdi Sanaei, the political advisor to the Iranian president, wrote on his X account on January 6 that during the visits, several documents promoting cooperation will be signed,
Meanwhile, Iran’s Tabnak reported on January 6 that the Iranian president will travel to Moscow on January 17 to sign a comprehensive strategic partnership deal between Iran and Russia.
Tehran and Moscow previously established a 20-year strategic agreement in 2001, encompassing collaboration across various sectors including industry, technology, security, energy, and the development of nuclear power plants.
This original pact was automatically extended for an additional five years in 2020, while both nations agreed to initiate the drafting of a new long-term strategic agreement.
