The National Medical Center Shifobakhsh has started performing cochlear implantation surgeries to restore hearing in patients with severe hearing loss and complete deafness, the press center of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP) reports.

According to otolaryngologist Qudratullo Azizov from the Center, all patients who have undergone this procedure so far have regained their hearing, and their speech is gradually normalizing.  However, the specialist emphasizes that cochlear implantation is a complex surgery, and its success depends on several factors.

The first critical factor is timely diagnosis.  To address this, all maternity hospitals in the country are now equipped with devices to detect hearing loss and deafness in newborns.

"Now, there is no need to travel abroad for the diagnosis and treatment of hearing-related conditions.  Maternity hospitals across the country are equipped with necessary devices for identifying deafness.  Additionally, specialized audiology offices are staffed with qualified specialists and equipped with the tools needed to perform such diagnostics," the MoHSPP press center stated.

A milestone in medical advancements in Tajikistan

In January of this year, doctors at the Shifobakhsh National Medical Center, in collaboration with specialists from the Dastai Dil Diagnostic and Treatment Center, performed a complex endovascular brain surgery for the first time.

The surgery was conducted on a patient with skull and brain injuries that caused swelling, bleeding, and a risk of vision loss.

The endovascular embolization of an aneurysm was performed without incisions, minimizing trauma and reducing the rehabilitation period. The procedure involves inserting a soft metal coil into the affected blood vessel to block blood flow to the damaged area.

Previously, such surgeries were not performed in Tajikistan, forcing patients to seek treatment abroad.

The MoHSPP highlighted that this operation is among the most complex in neurosurgery, and its successful execution marks a significant milestone in the development of the country’s medical field.
