Interagency consultations between Tajikistan and Russia on migration, employment, and education of Tajik citizens in Russia were held in Moscow on January 28-29, 2025.

The representative office of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Labor Migration and Employment of the Population (MoLMEP) in Moscow says the first meeting that took place on January 28 was attended by Deputy Minister of Labor, Migration, and Employment, Shahnоza Nodiri, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Lutfia Abdulkholiqzoda and Russia’s Deputy Minister of Education, Andrey Korneyev.  Representatives of President’s Executive Office of Tajikistan and the Tajik Embassy in Moscow also participated in the meeting.

Discussions reportedly focused on the following issues:

  • Construction of a Center for Gifted Children in Dushanbe;
  • Operations of five joint Tajik-Russian schools;
  • Adaptation and supply of Russian-language textbooks;
  • Teaching of history in Tajikistan;
  • Preparations for the working visit of Russia’s Minister of Education, Sergey Kravtsov, to Tajikista 

The Tajik Embassy in Moscow says challenges faced by children of Tajik labor migrants enrolling in Russian schools were also dsicussed at the meeting.

On January 29, expanded interagency consultations on migration issues were held, where the parties exchanged views on:

  • Cooperation in migration management;
  • Legalization of Tajik citizens listed in Russia’s control registries;
  • Medical examinations of migrants in Tajikistan;
  • Lifting entry bans for Tajik citizens penalized for minor violations.

 

Additionally, the two countries discussed amendments to the bilateral agreement on the organized recruitment of Tajik workers for temporary employment in Russia.

Another key topic was professional training for Tajik workers in high-demand fields in Russia.  Both sides expressed mutual commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation on these issues.
