On March 14, Somon Air will operate the first charter flight in nearly four years on the Dushanbe – Bishkek – Dushanbe air route. An official source within Tajikistan’s Civil Aviation Agency confirmed this in an interview with Asia-Plus.
The flight will carry representatives from civil aviation authorities, ministries, and agencies, including the Tourism Committee.
- Departure from Dushanbe: 09:00
- Departure from Bishkek: 13:30 (local time)
Regular flights resume on March 23
Somon Air has announced that from March 23, weekly flights will operate every Sunday:
- Departure from Dushanbe: 10:30
- Departure from Bishkek: 14:20 (local time)
- Flight duration: 1 hour 30 minutes (Dushanbe to Bishkek), 1 hour 20 minutes (Bishkek to Dushanbe)
In the near future, the airline plans to increase the frequency to twice a week—on Wednesdays and Sundays. The flights will be operated on Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-900 aircraft.
Somon Air welcomes the resumption of flights
Somon Air emphasized its commitment to strengthening ties between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
"We are confident that resuming this route will improve transportation accessibility for citizens of both countries. We invite passengers to take advantage of this convenient and fast flight," the airline stated.
Suspension of air travel in 2021
Direct flights between Dushanbe and Bishkek were suspended in May 2021 after Kyrgyzstan imposed entry restrictions on Tajik citizens.
On May 25, 2021, around 200 passengers on a Somon Air charter flight were denied entry into Kyrgyzstan and had to return to Dushanbe.
In June 2021, Kyrgyz authorities officially closed its common border with Tajikistan, including air travel.
Border agreement paves the way for flight resumption
After the delimitation of the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan was finalized in March 2025, Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda and Kyrgyz Cabinet Chairman Odlbek Kasymaliyev met in Dushanbe to discuss the resumption of direct flights.
During his state visit to Kyrgyzstan, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today officially announced the relaunch of flights between the two countries.
This marks another step toward normalizing relations and enhancing connectivity between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
