By president’s decree issued on March 6, 2025, the first sitting of the first session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) of the seventh convocation will take place March 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM in Dushanbe.
An official source within the Majlisi Namoyandagon says the session will take place at the new Parliament building.
According to him, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon will participate in the first session of the newly elected Majlisi Namoyandagon.
The first session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon is opened by the eldest deputy; he/she conducts the session until the chairperson of the Majlisi Namoyandagon is elected.
During the first session, the chairperson of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, deputy chairpersons and heads of the Majlisi Namoyandagon permanent committees and commissions will be elections.
It is worth recalling that the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan, held on March 2, resulted in a victory for the ruling People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan (PDPT), which secured 49 out of 63 seats in the Majlisi Namoyandagon—two more than in the previous convocation.
Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER), Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda, reported that 4.71 million Tajik citizens out of 5.52 million registered voters participated in the elections, making up 85.3% of the total electorate.
Among the participating parties, PDPT received 51.9% of the votes (2,435,541 people), the Agrarian Party gained 21%, the Party of Economic Reforms secured 12.7%, the Democratic Party received 5.1%, and the Socialist Party garnered 5.3%.
The Communist Party of Tajikistan, for the first time, failed to win any seats in parliament.
Notably, the Social-Democratic Party, the only Tajik party to explicitly oppose President Emomali Rahmon, did not participate in the elections. While it had taken part in previous elections, it never secured any mandates.
