The leaders of Tajikistan and Iran exchanged greetings on the occasions of Navrouz and Eid al-Fitr during phone talks held on April 1, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Emomali Rahmon wished his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, good health and continued success, and wished peace, tranquility, and prosperity to the people of Iran.

During the phone talks, the two presidents reportedly discussed the current state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Tajikistan President Rahmon reportedly expressed satisfaction with the current momentum of bilateral cooperation and emphasized the importance of maintaining regular high-level dialogue.

Special attention was given to the outcomes of the recent visit of the Iranian president to Tajikistan, which both leaders described as an important step in strengthening cooperation between the two nations.

For his part, Pezeshkian expressed hope that he and the President of Tajikistan would have the opportunity to personally discuss future cooperation “at the earliest opportunity.”

“The centuries-old history of friendship and heartfelt relations between the peoples of Iran and Tajikistan encourages us to further strengthen and deepen our friendship and cooperation in various fields, and I look forward to a personal meeting to discuss this matter,” Emomali Rahmon was quoted as saying by Iran’s Mehr news agency.

It should be noted that during the Iranian president’s state visit to Tajikistan in January this year, 23 cooperation documents were signed.  The two sides discussed prospects for joint projects in various industrial sectors, including mineral processing, construction materials production, agriculture, healthcare, and energy.

A business forum between entrepreneurs from both countries was also held during the visit, where 13 agreements were signed worth over US$450 million — another clear sign of the broad potential for collaboration between entrepreneurs and investors from both countries.
