The combined wealth of the billionaires listed in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index surged by US$304 billion on April 9, after stock markets soared following Donald Trump's decision to suspend tariffs on several countries, Meduza reported on April 10.

This marks the largest single-day gain in the index’s history, which Bloomberg has been compiling since March 2012. On average, the net worth of the world’s 500 richest people rose by 3.5% in just one day.

The biggest winner was Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, whose fortune increased by US$36 billion in a single day.

He was followed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose wealth rose by US$26 billion.  Jensen Huang, the head of Nvidia Corp., saw his net worth increase by US$15.5 billion.

In percentage terms, the biggest gainer was Ernest Garcia III, CEO of Carvana, who boosted his fortune by 25%, adding US$1.4 billion.

The previous record for a one-day wealth increase — US$233 billion — was set in March 2022, after U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell raised interest rates for the first time in years but reassured markets that the economy remained resilient.
