Earth is expected to experience a period of intense magnetic storms due to the formation of a large coronal hole on the Sun.  Izvestia reports that representatives from the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics reported this on April 19.

Forecasts predict a sharp increase in solar activity by the evening of Monday, April 21, with the likelihood of a strong magnetic storm reaching 80%.

"At the moment, if the size of the hole remains at its current level, the duration of the storms is expected to be relatively short (two days, from Monday to Tuesday).  In more negative scenarios, this period may extend into part of Wednesday," the Institute's Telegram channel stated.

The peak of activity is expected on April 23, when powerful storms of class G2 are predicted.

Magnetic conditions are expected to stabilize between April 25 and April 29.
