Co-chaired by the Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Aliabadi, the two-day 17th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation is concluding in the Iranian city of Shiraz today.

The agenda of the 17th meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission includes several parts: meetings of experts from organizations and ministries that have been developing memorandums for several months, as well as a final meeting where changes will be made if necessary.

The second part of the meeting includes a business session between entrepreneurs from Tajikistan and Iran. This meeting has involved 25 Tajik and over 30 Iranian entrepreneurs and industrialists.

The press center of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MoEWR) says the meeting aims to strengthen relations and expand cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Minister of Energy and Water Resources first expressed condolences and deep sympathy on behalf of the official delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan to the people of the brotherly country regarding the sudden tragedy that occurred at the "Shahid Rajai" Port in Bandar Abbas.

He then recalled the state visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, to the Republic of Tajikistan (January 15-17, 2025), and noted: “During high-level meetings and discussions, the top leaders of the two brotherly, culturally similar countries addressed bilateral cooperation issues in a friendly atmosphere and exchanged views on important regional and international events.  As a result of these high-level negotiations, 23 new cooperation agreements were signed.”

It was mentioned that in 2024, the bilateral trade between the two countries valued at US$377.7 million, which is an increase of $123.2 million or 48.4% compared to 2023.

Over the first three months of this year, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Iran has reportedly valued at US$110.6 million, which is an increase of US$33.2 million or 42.9% compared to the same period last year.

The meeting participants discussed ways to expand cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, industry and mining, investment, transportation, finance and banking, geology, cartography, standardization, customs, education, healthcare, youth and sports, water, oil and gas, energy, culture, information and communication technologies, agriculture, and broadcasting in a friendly and cooperative atmosphere.

The 17th meeting of the commission will conclude today with the signing of a protocol.
