On May 7, the Federal Association of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses of Germany (BVMW) opened a representative office in Dushanbe, as part of the Tajik-German Business Forum, an official source within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan (CCI) told Asia-Plus.

A memorandum of understanding on the opening of the representative office was signed in November of last year.

At an online meeting between the CCI leadership and BVMW representatives, which took place on November 7 with support from the Tajik Embassy in Germany, both parties reportedly discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, and investment between Tajikistan and Germany.

BVMW represents the interests of over 3.3 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Germany, uniting companies from all sectors.  The association has over 300 offices in Germany and more than 70 offices abroad, and annually hosts over 2,000 conferences and seminars, helping its members establish business connections.

Members of the German delegation participating in the forum, held at the Serena Hotel in Dushanbe, included representatives from about 20 major companies operating in the banking, agriculture, insurance, construction, transportation, and healthcare sectors.

According to Tajikistan’s statistics agency, the bilateral trade turnover between Tajikistan and Germany in 2024 amounted to US$101.4 million, which is 45.5% lower than in 2023.

As of November last year, the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management of Tajikistan (GosKomInvest) reported that the total volume of accumulated German investment in the country's economy stands at around US$200 million.

The BVMW office in Dushanbe will operate at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan, located at 21 Valamatzade Street.

The CCI believes that this office will become an important platform for expanding trade and economic relations between Tajikistan and Germany.
