Tajikistan is strengthening its position as one of the leading exporters of dried fruits in Central Asia.  Over the first three months of this year, the country exported more than 26,500 tons of dried fruits, totaling over US$9.4 million in value.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT), by the end of the year, the export volume is expected to grow by 12%, and the total export value by 16% compared to 2024.

In 2023, Tajikistan reportedly exported 81,800 tons of dried fruits, while in 2024, the volume increased to 90,100 tons.

CIS countries, Germany, China and Turkiye remain the main export markets for Tajik dried fruits.

An official source within a MoEDT says that last year, over 70% of exports went to Russia and Kazakhstan — 7,688 tons and 62,000 tons, respectively.

In 2024, Belarus (701 tons), Turkiye (1,446 tons), and Uzbekistan (1,629 tons) were also among the top five trading partners for Tajikistan’s dried fruit exports.

Last year, Tajikistan reportedly exported dried fruits to 26 countries worldwide.

Leading products in the country's export basket continue to include dried apricots, raisins, prunes, figs, and nuts.

Among the challenges faced by the sector are competition from Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan, logistical barriers, and rising costs.  However, the development of drying and packaging technologies and the expansion of export routes are opening new opportunities and making the dried fruit market one of the most promising sectors in the region, the source added.

Over the first quarter of 2025, Tajikistan has reportedly exported 26,562 tons of dried fruits.  According to forecasts, the total dried fruit export volume from Tajikistan will reach 94,000 tons by the end of the year.
