This year, 80 residents of Danghara District expressed a desire to perform the Hajj. However, 40 of them chose to forgo the pilgrimage and instead invested the money they had saved into the improvement of their local district. This was announced by President Emomali Rahmon during a seminar-meeting with regional, city, and district leaders held in his hometown, Danghara, on May 17.

The Tajik president’s official website reports that the president said “generous entrepreneurs and residents” of Danghara invested 2.3 billion somonis in the construction of various facilities and the development of the district.  Of this amount, 628 million somonis was spent on building educational institutions and other social infrastructure.

In the rural jamoats of Pushin and Korez alone, five schools with a total capacity of 4,800 students were built with the participation of local residents and entrepreneurs, as well as kindergartens, healthcare facilities, and seven production enterprises.

“All of these funds came entirely from the district’s entrepreneurs and residents,” Rahmon emphasized, instructing leaders of other regions to study Danghara’s experience.

The president noted that in preparation for the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence, Danghara district has seen the construction of: 27 schools; 3 kindergartens; 2 hospitals; 4 wellness centers; 7 health posts; 3 maternity wards; 18 enterprises and production workshops; 29 service centers; 3 parks of culture and recreation; 11 bridges; 77 kilometers of paved roads; and 133 kilometers of cobblestone-paved roads

Currently, 60 more facilities are under construction and are set to be completed within this year.

“I express my sincere gratitude to all entrepreneurs, generous individuals, and all citizens of Tajikistan for supporting the government’s initiatives,” Rahmon concluded.
