In statement delivered at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS member nations in Dushanbe on June 5, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin called on the member countries of the organization to join the Unified Transit Agreement of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
TASS reports that Mishustin emphasized the importance of further expanding cooperation between the CIS and the EAEU, stressing the need to harmonize the legal and regulatory frameworks of both organizations. He noted that the close ties between the countries of the CIS and the EAEU made such cooperation vital for mutual benefit.
"We consider it important to expand cooperation between the CIS and the Eurasian Economic Union. Given the strong relationships between our countries, we must work towards aligning the legal and regulatory acts of these two unions," Mishustin said.
The Russian prime minister praised the unified system of transit customs clearance, which he believes will improve trade conditions and enhance cargo transportation security. He explained that the agreement, which has already been adopted to strengthen external trade within the union, is open to all countries and offers the potential to boost cross-border transportation safety, reduce business costs, and simplify the movement of goods across the EAEU territories.
"I invite our CIS partners to join this mechanism," Mishustin said.
Additionally, Mishustin highlighted Russia's ongoing efforts, along with other member states, to create conditions for the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor, benefiting both citizens and businesses.
He also spoke about supporting joint industrial projects, where subsidies for loans provided by commercial banks are available to implement such initiatives, and shared plans to assist the agro-industrial complex and agriculture.
Earlier, during a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Mishustin reaffirmed that strengthening cooperation within the CIS is a top priority for Russia.
Mishustin added that, according to last year's results, Russia's foreign trade turnover with CIS countries had increased by seven percent, surpassing ten trillion rubles.
