Police in Tajikistan’s capital have arrested a 50-year-old English language tutor on suspicion of sexually harassing several of his female students.  According to the Dushanbe police department, the suspect, identified as Ulughbek Alimurzayev, had been giving private language lessons at his home for several years.

The arrest followed a social media post published on July 8 on Facebook, in which multiple women accused the tutor of inappropriate behavior.

“The teacher kissed me on the lips before the lesson began,” wrote one of the alleged victims.

The post triggered widespread public reaction and prompted a response from “Tell Me Sister”, a local women’s rights community on Instagram that supports victims of abuse and harassment. Other women came forward in the comments section, sharing similar experiences with the same tutor.

The police say they are now conducting a formal investigation. Alimurzayev is currently under arrest pending further inquiries.
