As part of his tour of Central Asia, the President of Mongolia, Khurelsukh Ukhnaa will visit Tajikistan at the invitation of Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon.

According to Tajikistan’s MFA, Khurelsukh Ukhnaa will pay a state visit to Tajikistan from July 23-26.

High-level meetings and the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements are planned during the visit.

The Mongolian president’s press service reports that as part of the visit, the inaugural Mongolia–Tajikistan Business Forum and a cultural performance, among other events, will be organized under the auspices of the two Heads of State.

President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, previously paid a state visit to Mongolia in 2009.

While Tajikistan and Mongolia do not have significant trade relations—given both countries are primarily suppliers of raw materials—the visit underscores the intention to strengthen ties.

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a trade between Tajikistan and Mongolia over the first five months of this year has valued at only 172,000 US dollars, all of which was the import of goods from Mongolia.

In 2024, the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Mongolia reportedly valued at US$50,000.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Mongolia estimated at 7,300 US dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from Mongolia worth 43,500 U.S. dollars.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Mongolia were established on April 24, 1992. Inter-ministerial political consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries have also taken place, with the most recent consultations occurring on April 17, 2025.

During the consultations, which were held on April 17 this year, the parties reportedly discussed a wide range of issues, including the development of bilateral and multilateral relations between Tajikistan and Mongolia, cooperation within international and regional organizations, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

Meanwhile, the Mongolian president’s press service says Khurelsukh Ukhnaa will pay a state visit to Kyrgyzstan from July 20-23.  President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov will hold official talks to discuss the expansion and development of the traditional friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries, as well as cooperation in regional and international arenas.
