Tajikistan’s junior and cadet taekwondo athletes brought home two bronze medals from the Asian Taekwondo (WT) Championships held in Kuching, Malaysia, from July 25 to 28.  The event drew athletes from 42 countries, making the competition fierce and every victory hard-fought.

According to the Tajikistan Taekwondo Federation (WT), the national team delivered a commendable performance, reflecting their rigorous preparation and fighting spirit.

“These medals are the result of intense battles, showcasing the resilience, courage, and high fighting spirit of our young athletes,” an official source within the Tajikistan Taekwondo Federation (WT) told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Bahodour Abdujafar competed in the 55 kg junior category and secured Tajikistan’s first bronze.  He advanced through the early rounds by defeating opponents from Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, and India.  In the semifinals, he faced a top contender from Thailand.  Although he fell short of reaching the final, his strong performance earned him a well-deserved place on the podium.

The second bronze medal came from Oliya Murodova in the cadet 37 kg category.  She claimed victories over athletes from Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan before facing a formidable opponent from South Korea in the semifinals—a nation renowned for its taekwondo dominance.

“Despite the semifinal loss, Oliya’s result stands as a significant achievement and a testament to the rising level of women’s taekwondo in Tajikistan,” the federation noted.

Coach Jahonzeb Karmiyev praised the team’s dedication and unity: “We’re proud of how our athletes performed. They’ve proven that Tajikistan can compete on equal footing with Asia’s top taekwondo schools.”

The two bronze medals mark a step forward for Tajikistan’s youth in international sports and offer inspiration to the next generation of aspiring athletes.
