Tajikistan's foreign trade turnover deficit has continued to grow in the first half of 2025, the country’s Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Zavqi Zavqizoda, told reporters in Dushanbe on August 6.

According to him, the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) reached 70.8 billion somonis during the period, with inflation at 1.8% and total trade turnover exceeding 33 billion somonis.

Zavqizoda highlighted that the GDP for January–June 2021–2025 increased 2.9 times compared to the same period in 2016–2020.  The national economy posted an average annual growth rate of 8.1% over the past five years—1.9 percentage points higher than the average for 2016–2020.

Exports during this period were dominated by:

  • Semi-precious metals (including antimony) – 30%
  • Minerals – 26.5%
  • Primary aluminum and aluminum products – 13.8%
  • Cotton fiber – 5.7%
  • Electricity – 5.7%
  • Agricultural products – 3.4%
  • Copper and copper products – 2.6%
  • Clothing and textiles – 2.2%
  • Coal – 1%
  • Cement – 1%

Meanwhile, key imports included:

  • Food products – 8.3%
  • Raw food materials for processing – 9.7%
  • Vehicles – 13%
  • Petroleum products – 11.7%
  • Technological equipment – 7.9%
  • Ferrous metals – 7%
  • Electrical equipment – 6.3%
  • Timber and wood products – 4.3%
  • Liquefied gas – 3.2%
  • Polymer products – 3.1%

Russia remains one of Tajikistan’s top trade partners. According to Zavqizoda, trade turnover between the two countries increased by 111% in the first half of 2025, reaching $1.71 billion.
