On July 30, 2025, Tajikistan's Minister of Labor, Migration, and Employment of the Population, Ms. Soleha Kholmadzoda, reported during a news conference that as of June 1, 2025, the average salary in the country had reached 2,665.9 somonis.  This marks a 24.2% increase (519.9 somonis) compared to the same period last year.

What can you buy on the average salary?

According to a household budget survey conducted by the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, the largest share of family income is spent on food.

Based on average data:

  • 47.6% of income goes to food, which amounts to 1,269 somonis for those with an average salary of 2,665.9 somonis.
  • 28% is spent on non-food items, such as clothing, footwear, household chemicals, and other daily needs.
  • 17.5% is spent on utilities, transportation, healthcare, and communication.
  • 6.9% covers miscellaneous expenses, including taxes, loan payments, gifts, and others, which equals approximately 184 somonis.

Naturally, each person’s expenses are highly individual, depending on factors like whether they live in a city, town, village, or remote area, as well as the number of family members. Therefore, these average figures only provide a general view of consumption trends across the population.

Sectoral salary differences

The average salary varies significantly across different sectors. Here's a breakdown:

  • Education – 2,441.92 somonis
  • Healthcare and Social Services – 1,951.61 somonis
  • Culture and Sports – 2,305.33 somonis
  • Government and Social Insurance – 2,275.67 somonis

While the salary increases reflect an overall upward trend, how far it stretches for each household largely depends on local conditions, personal circumstances, and regional price differences.
