Tajikistan's mining and coal industries are showing strong growth. In the first half of 2025, production volumes increased significantly, new enterprises were opened, and thousands of jobs were created. The country has seen a boost in raw material processing and a rise in exports.
According to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan (MoINT), the mining and coal sector produced goods worth 12.7 billion somonis in the first half of 2025, a 42% increase, or 5.6 billion somonis, compared to the same period in 2024.
The steady growth is attributed to expanded processing and export volumes, the adoption of modern extraction technologies, and the creation of thousands of new jobs. Key factors contributing to this success include the development of infrastructure, the introduction of automated production systems, and the training of skilled workers.
A significant contributor to this growth was the Tajik-Chinese Mining Company, which boosted its production 1.4 times, increasing its output from 3.1 billion somonis to 4.5 billion somonis. Other major players in the industry include the Anzob Ore Dressing Plant, TBEA Dushanbe Mining Industry LCC, TALCO Gold, Aprelevka, Tilloi Tojik, Pakrout, and others. These companies are actively involved in implementing the national program for the development of non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy through 2025, which aims to increase the share of finished products by 120% compared to 2020 levels.
Infrastructure development in the sector has been accompanied by the construction of new plants, quarries, and the creation of new jobs, including positions for young specialists. The involvement of President Emomali Rahmon in launching key industrial facilities has been crucial. In April 2025, during a working visit to the Rasht District, he opened new production facilities at TBEA Dushanbe Mining Industry.
Coal industry fuels the region
The coal industry in Tajikistan also showed positive dynamics in the first half of 2025. Coal extraction was carried out at 16 enterprises across 12 regions of the country. The total production volume reached 1,056,800 tons, which is 12% more (109,200 tons) than in the same period in 2024. By the end of June, the total volume of coal produced was 764,700 tons.
Over the six months, coal products were exported to four regional countries—Uzbekistan (accounting for over 80%), Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
To further develop the sector, a MoINT is actively negotiating with potential investors from Russia, China, Europe, and Uzbekistan. These discussions are focused on attracting capital for the construction of a coking coal processing plant in Fon-Yaghnob, as well as setting up coke and anthracite production at the Nazar-Ayloq mine.
These projects are included in the protocol and action plan of the intergovernmental commission on economic and trade cooperation and are currently under review.
