The construction of 10 additional parking lots for large-sized aircraft and a new taxiway has begun at Dushanbe International Airport.

"A new taxiway will be built to ensure flight safety during landing and take–off, its length will be 1.5 km and its width will be 60 meters," – the airport's press center told Asia–Plus.

250,000 square meters of taxiways and airport parking lots will also be completely renovated and re-paved.

The source clarified that the decision was made in connection with the announcement of an "Open Skies" policy in the country's aviation industry, and construction work is expected to be fully completed within 2-3 months. It is not reported how much money will be spent on the construction and reconstruction of taxiways and parking lots.

According to the press service, there are parking spaces for 24 aircraft in airport today.

In June of this year, the Tajik authorities adopted an "Open Skies" policy, that abolished the previous principle of flight parity, which limited the number of flights operated by foreign airlines, equating them to the number of flights operated by domestic carriers.

The construction of a new terminal is also underway at Dushanbe International Airport. The head of the airport, Zainullo Sharifzoda, said at a recent press conference that specialists from Turkey had been invited to prepare the design documentation, and the facility is scheduled to be put into operation within the next one or two years.

In addition, special zones are being created at the capital's airport for sending off and meeting passengers. Construction work in these areas will be completed soon and they will be open for use.

In May of this year, a ban was imposed on entry into the arrival and departure areas for passengers and those who met them. The airport administration explained this ban by the need to comply with international flight safety regulations, maintain public order, maintain cleanliness at the airport and comply with sanitary standards, including preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
