Tajikistan has a "great interest" in strengthening and expanding friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with Qatar. This was stated by the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on August 23 at a meeting with the Director General of the Qatar Development Fund Fahd Hamad Al-Suleiti and a delegation of Qatari banks.

"We consider Qatar as one of the reputable countries in the Arab world and our important partner," Rahmon stressed.

The meeting discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Tajikistan and Qatar, including with the economic and banking structures of this country.

The parties made proposals to expand trade and economic cooperation and mutually beneficial investments in the fields of energy, industry, transport, agriculture, irrigation, mining and processing of minerals.

It should be noted that Tajikistan is negotiating with the Qatar Development Fund to raise grant funds for the continuation of the construction of the Rogun HPP. During his working visit to Doha in October 2024, Emomali Rahmon proposed that Qatar establish a joint economic and Investment Fund to finance Tajikistan's priority projects.
