Rashid Karimov, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War and labor, died in Hissar. He was 113 years old. This was announced by the Executive Body of the state authority of the city of Hissar.

According to the mayor's office, Rashid Karimov passed away on August 24, 2025 after an illness.

The Battle

Path Rashid Karimov was born in 1912 in Hissar, then still part of the Bukhara Emirate. Before the war, he worked as a rural teacher. In 1942, at the age of 30, he was drafted into the army. He was enlisted in an artillery regiment, where he served as a gunner.

Soon the unit was transferred to Stalingrad. In the fall of 1942, an enemy shell hit their crew, and Karimov was seriously wounded. He spent several months in a hospital in Gorky, and then returned to service.

On the 1st Ukrainian Front, he participated in the liberation of Ukrainian cities, where he was wounded again and treated in a hospital in Zhytomyr.

"In general, out of the four years of the war, I spent about six months in the infirmaries, and the remaining three and a half years at the front," the veteran recalled.

He celebrated Victory Day in Czechoslovakia, which was being liberated by the Soviet army. He returned home only in November 1945. For his heroism, he was awarded more than 30 orders and medals, among which the Order of Glory of the III degree occupies a special place.

Peaceful life

After the war, Rashid Karimov worked as a teacher again, and then headed the Rokhi Lenin collective farm in the Gissar district for almost 30 years. He retired in the early 1980s, but remained a respected figure in the republic.

The veteran has a large family nine children and more than three hundred grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Despite his advanced age, he remained cheerful and active until his health began to fail in recent years.

"I only ask that the next generation not know wars," he said in an interview with AsiaPlus on his 111th birthday.

Rashid Karimov left behind not only numerous descendants, but also an example of courage, hard work and loyalty to the Motherland.
