President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon departed for Doha this morning on a working visit to Qatar, where he will take part in an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Arab League member states.  The high-level meeting is scheduled for September 15 in the Qatari capital.

Ahead of the summit, on September 14, Tajikistan's Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin participated in an extraordinary meeting of OIC foreign ministers, also held in Doha.  The meeting was convened at Qatar’s initiative following an Israeli airstrike on September 9.

According to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministerial discussions focused on the escalating crisis in the Middle East and finalized the agenda for the upcoming leaders' summit.

Earlier, the Tajik Foreign Ministry issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli airstrike, calling it an act of aggression against Qatar’s territorial integrity and a violation of international law.

“These actions represent a clear breach of international norms and the core principles of the UN Charter, further exacerbating an already fragile situation in the Middle East,” the statement read.

On September 9, Israeli forces launched an aerial assault on Doha, targeting a Hamas headquarters during negotiations over a proposed ceasefire in Gaza.  The meeting was reportedly centered around a new peace plan put forward by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Codenamed “Summit of Fire,” the Israeli operation involved 15 fighter jets equipped with heavy bombs, supported by drone surveillance.  According to Israeli officials, the strike was a direct response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, incursion into Israel and a subsequent terrorist attack in Jerusalem on September 8, 2025.

The airstrike has drawn widespread condemnation throughout the Middle East and beyond.

Doha has long served as a global center for diplomacy.  Over the past two decades, it has hosted critical negotiations — from the repatriation of Ukrainian children and the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan to peace deals in Sudan and hostage release talks involving Hamas.
