The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and Tajikistan’s Ministry of Agriculture have signed a Technical Assistance Agreement aimed at accelerating the digitization of agriculture and empowering youth through innovation.

Press release issued by WFP Tajikistan on October 16 says the agreement is part of the project “Engaging Youth Smallholder Farmers through Agri-Tech for Improved Food Security and Value Chains,” supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). It represents a major step forward in Tajikistan’s agricultural modernization agenda, emphasizing digital transformation, inclusive partnerships, and youth engagement.

Aligned with the Government’s Agricultural Digitization Strategy (2025–2027), the initiative prioritizes enhanced knowledge sharing, innovation, and stronger value chain connectivity. Approximately 10,000 young people aged 15 to 35 are expected to benefit directly from training programs under the project.

The Ministry of Agriculture will co-chair the project’s Steering Committee and play a central role in the Technical Working Group on Digital Agriculture.

“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to building a resilient, tech-enabled agricultural economy that empowers young farmers and strengthens food security,” said Adham Musallam, WFP Representative and Country Director in Tajikistan. “By combining digital innovation with capacity building, we are creating new opportunities for Tajikistan’s youth to thrive.”

WFP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Tajikistan’s agricultural transformation through digital tools, youth-led solutions, and strategic partnerships.

The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, focused on saving lives during crises and using food assistance to build a pathway toward peace, stability, and prosperity.

KOICA, established in 1991 by the Republic of Korea, implements development aid and technical cooperation programs with a mission to promote global prosperity and inclusive development that leaves no one behind.
