The 8th French Film Festival will take place in the Diar Dushanbe cultural center from October 27 to 31, showcasing a diverse lineup of French cinema including documentaries, dramas, comedies, and animated features.
Organized in cooperation with the French Embassy in Dushanbe, the festival aims to foster cultural exchange and promote French filmmaking to Tajik audiences. All screenings will begin at 6:00 PM, presented in French with Russian subtitles. Admission is free.

October 27 – "The Velvet Queen" (La panthère des neiges, 2021) — This Cannes-nominated documentary follows two adventurers as they travel through Tibet in search of the elusive snow leopard.
As they observe the majestic wildlife and remote landscapes, the film raises profound questions about humanity's place in the natural world.
October 28 – "Sophie's Misfortunes" (Les malheurs de Sophie, 2016) — A heartwarming and sometimes tragic tale about Sophie, a curious young girl whose life changes dramatically when her family prepares to move to America.
Surrounded by cousins and friends, Sophie faces a life-altering event that shifts her path forever.
October 29 – "Each and Every Moment" (De chaque instant, 2018) — This powerful documentary captures the emotional journey of nursing students as they train to face the fragility of life, human suffering, and the physical and emotional demands of healthcare.
The film highlights the resilience and dedication of those entering the medical profession.
October 30 – "An Absence So Long" (Une aussi longue absence, 1961) — Set years after World War II, this poignant classic follows Thérèse Langlois, who encounters a homeless man she believes is her long-lost husband.
Once interrogated by the Gestapo, he now suffers from amnesia, unable to recognize her or recall his past life.
October 31 – "Dilili in Paris" (Dilili à Paris, 2018) — In early 20th-century Paris, young Dilili from New Caledonia teams up with her friend Orel to investigate a string of mysterious child abductions.
As they journey through the city, they receive help from Paris’ most famous artists, scientists, and thinkers in this imaginative animated adventure.
The festival offers an enriching cinematic experience for all ages and is a unique opportunity for Dushanbe residents to engage with award-winning and thought-provoking French films.
