Despite global economic turbulence, geopolitical tensions, and ongoing trade conflicts, Tajikistan’s economy reportedly continues to show strong momentum, with real GDP growth reaching 8.2% in the first nine months of 2025, according to official government data.

The country’s GDP totaled 117.8 billion somonis between January and September 2025, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda announced during a meeting with Matthew Gertner, head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission to Tajikistan, held on October 29, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT)’s press center.

Zavqizoda said that economic growth is projected to remain robust, with forecasts of 8.2% in 2025 and 8.5% in 2026.

Matthew Gertner reportedly commended Tajikistan’s economic achievements and reaffirmed the IMF’s readiness to deepen cooperation with the country.

Zavqizoda also highlighted the strengthening ties between Tajikistan and the IMF, attributing this progress to high-level engagements between President Emomali Rahmon and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

He thanked the Fund for upgrading its 2025 growth forecast for Tajikistan to 7.5%, and urged IMF representatives to support an increase in concessional external borrowing to help achieve the country’s economic development priorities and maintain macroeconomic stability.

The meeting concluded with both parties confirming their commitment to continued mutually beneficial cooperation.
