President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has made a series of significant personnel changes in the government and diplomatic service, according to the Tajik president's official website. The latest appointments include a new Minister of Economic Development and Trade, as well as new ambassadors to the United States, France, Italy, and Austria.

New minister and ambassador to the United States

On November 14, Zavqi Zavqizoda was relieved of his duties as Minister of Economic Development and Trade and appointed as Tajikistan’s new ambassador to the United States, replacing Farukh Hamralizoda.

Hamralizoda had served as ambassador in Washington for five years. His next posting has not yet been announced.

The ministerial post has been filled by Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda, formerly Deputy Mayor of Dushanbe.

Diplomatic changes in France, Italy, and Austria

Jamoliddin Ubaidulloyev has been dismissed as Ambassador to France and concurrently to Italy, but retains his role as Ambassador to Italy, where Tajikistan recently opened a standalone embassy.

Jamoliddin Ubaidulloyev, the eldest son of former Dushanbe mayor and ex-chairman of the upper house of parliament, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, had served as ambassador to France since 2018.

Jamshed Homidzoda, formerly head of the Department for International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been appointed as the new ambassador to France.

Meanwhile, Idibek Qalandar was relieved of his post as Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the OSCE, UN, and other international organizations in Vienna.

He is succeeded by Manouchehr Jobir.

Tajikistan appoints first Female Consul General

Zarina Ismoilzoda has been appointed as Tajikistan’s new Consul General in Novosibirsk, Russia, becoming the first woman in the country’s history to hold such a post. Previously, she served as deputy head of the Information and Press Department at the Foreign Ministry.

She graduated of the Faculty of Tajik Philology at Tajik National University and began her career at the Foreign Ministry in 2002. Ms. Ismoilzoda has scientific degree of Doctor of Political Sciences.

President sets clear mandates

In a meeting with the newly appointed officials, President Rahmon instructed the new Economy Minister to enhance economic analysis, accelerate digital transformation, and explore the use of artificial intelligence.

Diplomatic appointees were tasked with defending the interests of the state and citizens abroad and fostering multifaceted cooperation with host countries — including attracting investment and expanding social and cultural ties.
