A series of complex heart surgeries have been successfully performed at the Republican Scientific Cardiac Surgery Center in Dushanbe as part of a medical cooperation initiative between Tajikistan and Italy, Tajikistan’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP) has announced.

A joint team of cardiologists, including renowned Italian surgeon Vitaliy Pak, carried out several advanced procedures, including surgeries for children with congenital heart defects. The main foreign partner in the project was a hospital in Massa, Italy.

The collaboration is part of an ongoing agreement between the two sides, which includes regular exchanges of expertise, joint surgical missions, and training programs.

During his visit, Dr. Pak also led masterclasses and seminars on the latest techniques in cardiac surgery and cardiovascular treatment, helping enhance the skills of local medical professionals.

Tajikistan’s Chief Cardiac Surgeon, Abdusodiq Abdujabbarov, emphasized the success of the operations as proof of the effectiveness of the partnership and affirmed the country's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Massa hospital.

Earlier, Tajik and Swiss doctors also conducted joint surgeries and training sessions at the National Center for Tuberculosis, Pulmonology, and Thoracic Surgery.

The Swiss team arrived in Tajikistan as part of a German Development Bank program aimed at sharing expertise in diagnosing and treating tuberculosis and lung diseases, as well as advancing minimally invasive surgical practices.

The teams performed several successful surgeries using endoscopic techniques, avoiding incisions and significantly speeding up patient recovery. The Swiss delegation also donated modern medical equipment to the center.
