U.S. President Donald Trump has voiced his disappointment over Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s apparent refusal to review a peace plan proposed by Washington to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Trump made the comments during a media briefing ahead of the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony, Meduza reports, citing The Hill.

According to Trump, Zelensky’s team has seen and supported the proposal, but the president himself has allegedly not read it. “I must admit, I’m somewhat disappointed that President Zelensky still hasn’t read the [peace] proposal. His team liked it, but he didn’t,” Trump said.

He added that, to his knowledge, Russia is open to the terms outlined in the U.S. plan, even though Moscow “would prefer to control the entire country.” “As far as I know, Moscow agrees [to the U.S. terms], but I’m not sure Zelensky is on board,” Trump stated.

Trump did not clarify whether the comments referred to a previously discussed plan or a new initiative, nor did he explain how he knew about Zelensky’s position.

On December 6, President Zelensky announced that he had held a “lengthy and substantive” discussion with U.S. special envoy Steven Witkoff and Trump adviser Jared Kushner. According to Zelensky, the conversation focused on key issues related to ending hostilities and preventing another Russian invasion.

Zelensky also said he expects a detailed report from National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov following their meetings with U.S. officials in Florida.

Earlier in December, Kushner and Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

The Kremlin later stated that both acceptable and unacceptable points were raised during the talks, calling it a “normal part of the compromise-seeking process.”
