Tajikistan’s external trade turnover estimated at over $4.6 bln in Jan-Nov 2012

DUSHANBE, December 14, 2012, Asia-Plus  — In January-November 2012, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 4.641 billion U.S. dollars, which was 114.5 percent of the January-November 2011 level or 586 million U.S. dollars more, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

The trade balance was negative and amounted to some 2.161 billion U.S. dollars.

Exports of goods over the first eleven months of this year have amounted to more than 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, which is 7.4 percent more than in January-November 2011.

Imports of goods into the country over the same eleven-month period have amounted to more than 3.4 billion U.S. dollars, which is 17.6 percent more than in the same period last year.

Over the report period, Tajikistan has had relations with 100 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.

Over the first eleven months of this year, Tajikistan’s food product imports have reportedly risen 13 percent while Tajikistan’s transport facility imports over the report period have increased 2.2 times.

Tajikistan’s precious metal exports have reportedly risen 35 percent over the same eleven-month period.  

Meanwhile, the country’s natural gas imports have fallen 25 percent over the report period.  In January-November 2012, Tajikistan has imported 124.5 million cubic meters of natural gas from Uzbekistan for a total amount of 36.2 million U.S. dollars. 

In January-November 2012, Tajikistan’s major trading partners were: Russia – more than 942 million U.S. dollars; Kazakhstan – 630 U.S. million dollars; China – 618 million U.S. dollars; Turkey – 527 million U.S. dollars; Afghanistan – 221 million U.S. dollars, and Iran – 202 million U.S. dollars.
