DUSHANBE, October 27, 2008, Asia-Plus — Tajik national carrier, TajikAir, currently operate three Western type aircraft – Boeing 737-200, Boeing 737-300 and Boeing 737-800, Transport and Communications Minister Abdurahim Ashour remarked at a press conference in Dushanbe on October 24.
According to him, TajikAir intends to lease one more Western type aircraft – Boeing 757-200. The aircraft is expected to arrive in Dushanbe by the end of this year.
Nematullo Sohibov, the head of the civil aviation department within the Ministry of Transport of Communications (MoTC), noted that the aircraft was inducted on dry lease basis.
A dry lease is a leasing arrangement whereby one airline (lessor) provides an aircraft without insurance, crew, ground staff, supporting equipment, maintenance, etc. Dry lease is typically utilized by leasing companies and banks, requiring the lessee to put the aircraft on its own air operator certificate and provide aircraft registration.
“The crew for this aircraft is currently taking training course abroad,” Sohibov said.
Over the firs nine months of this year, TajikAir had carried more one 1 million passengers, which is 18.7 percent more than in the same period of last year.
