President Rahmonov addresses meeting of local authorities in Sughd

KHUJAND, August 23, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmonov who is on his two-day visit to Sughd today morning arrived in Khujand, where he took part in a ceremony of inauguration of stele erected in the city on occasion of the 15

anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence. 

Later he took part in the work of a meeting of local authorities of the Sughd province.  The meeting will sum up Sughd’s economic results in January-June 2006 and set tasks for resolving existing problems, according to the source.  

President Rahmonov arrived in northern Tajikistan for a two-day visit yesterday morning.  Yesterday, he attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the Shahriston tunnel to be built on the 180

th

kilometer of highway from Dushanbe to Khujand and inaugurated a new school to accommodate 450 pupils in the Ghonchi district.  Emomali Rahmonov yesterday also visited the Jabborrasulov district to familiarize himself with activity of cotton farms in the district.
