Representatives YPT visit Majlisi Namoyandagon

DUSHANBE, December 28, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Ms. Marhabo Jabborova, chairperson of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Policy yesterday received a group of representatives of the Youth Parliament of Tajikistan (YPT).

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says issues related to establishment and expansion of cooperation between the country’s professional parliament and public associations were the focus of the meeting.

MP Marhabo Jabborova briefed YPT representatives on activities of the Majlisi Namoyandagon committees and commissions.

“She expressed satisfaction with the establishment of “The Youth Parliament of Tajikistan”  public association and stressed that it could play a positive role in raising legal and political literacy of Tajik youth,” Sultonov said.

According to him, the YPT representatives also visited the Majlisi Namoyandagon library and museum.

The YPT represents a non-partisan and independent educational project which is tailored specifically to the needs of the young citizens of Tajikistan.  Launched in 2010, the project encourages independent thinking and socio-political initiative in young people and facilitates the learning of crucial social and professional skills.  The Youth Parliament of Tajikistan consists of young people from all regions of the country.

Meanwhile, NGO We & Civil Society (WCS) reports that it conducted the 5th session of the Youth Parliament of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on October 29, 20102.  46 delegates from Dushanbe, Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Regions (GBAO), Sughd and Khatlon provinces as well as districts subordinate to the center attended the session. The newly elected young parliamentarians opened the work of the YPT of the second convocation with great enthusiasm and serious plans.  The delegates elected the Chairman of the Youth Parliament, his three Deputies and the head of six parliamentary committees. Jumakhon Nozilshoyev, 3-d year student at Tajik National University, was elected the Chairman of the Youth Parliament by 37 votes.  Young parliamentarians also discussed participation of Tajik youth in political life of the country with special attention to elections.  After exchange of views and debate, young delegates decided to promote active youth participation in the upcoming presidential election in Tajikistan.  It was decided that young delegates will organize a national voter education campaign for young voter during the election campaign for presidential elections of 2013.
