DUSHANBE, March 4, 2013, Asia-Plus — Arranged by the Central Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a meeting formally entitled “The Meeting of Two Generations” took place at Tajik Technical University in Dushanbe at the end of last week.
The meeting participants included Mr. Safar Safarov, the first deputy chairman of the PDP, Ms. Makhfirat Khidirova, deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), Ms. Marhabo Jabborova, deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, Ms. Zarina Rajabova, member of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) and female party activists. More than 30 female students from Tajik Technical University attended the event, Adhmam Mirsaidov, the head of the PDP propagation department told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, more than 30 female students from Tajik Technical University attended the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Safar Safarov reportedly noted that the PDPT supported an active participation of women in social and political life of the country. Today more than 80,000 members of the PDP are women, Safarov said.
Founded in 1993, the People’s Democratic Party is the largest political party in Tajikistan, boasting 200,000 registered members. President Emomali Rahmon is chairman of the party. The PDP now controls some 65 percent of the seats in parliament (45 of 63 seats).
