DUSHANBE, October 14, 2008, Asia-Plus — Russian-owned software developer, MFI Soft, has launched VoIP-softswitch MVTS pro on the network of cellular operator Tacom in Tajikistan, Ms, Amrita Kirgizova, chairperson of the Tacom press service, said in an interview with Asia-Plus on October 14.
According to her, the program switch CLASS 4 MVTS Pro with capacity of 2,000 simultaneous connections, installed in Dushanbe, functions as tandem and provides an integrated management of VoIP-traffic in the operator’s network.
The MVTS Pro solution is a next generation Class 4 softswitch with session border controller functionality. MVTS Pro main job includes collection, switching and transcoding of VoIP traffic, management of signaling and media data streams and border access control.
MVTS Pro key benefit is the solution’s flexibility in terms of functionality and integration into the existing carrier’s network. MVTS Pro serves as a single entry point into the carrier’s network and allows flexible choice of the necessary proxy mode for individual gateways and destinations. Traffic switch handles H.323 and SIP VoIP traffic, performs kernel level protocol translation, functions as a session border controller and the source of call statistics.
We recall that VimpelCom announced the purchase of a 60% stake in Tajik cellular operator, Tacom, for $12 million on December 27, 2005.
Tacom is licensed to provide cellular communication services in Tajikistan in the GSM-900/1800, UMTS, CDMA-450, and AMPS standards.
VimpelCom, operating under the trademark of Beeline, is the second largest cell-phone operator in Russia. Its current (As of July, 2008) license portfolio covers a territory where 97% of Russia”s population resides, as well as 100% of the territory of Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Georgia and Armenia. Vimpelcom was founded in 1992 and initially operated AMPS/D-AMPS network in Moscow area. In 1997, VimpelCom was taken public by Russian-born American financier Leonid Rozhetskin, becoming the first Russian company listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: VIP).
