QURGHON TEPPA, DUSHANBE, April 25, 2013, Asia-Plus — A fire that occurred at Qurghon Teppa’s central marketplace, Farovon, Wednesday evening reportedly damaged some 30 percent of the market’s territory.

According to witnesses, the most of damage was cased to the food sale part of the market.

There has been one previous fire at the same market.  The blaze that broke out at the Farovon market in March 2012 destroyed 80 shops.

The Farovon market is located in downtown Qurghon Teppa and some 1,000 vendors now work at the market.

Representatives of local authorities have attributed the market fire to an electrical malfunction.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry’s website reports that the blaze that broke out at the Farovon market yesterday at 6:00 pm was extinguished in 1.5 hours.  Eleven fire crews were reportedly involved in fighting the fire.  No injured was reported.

A special working group has been set up for the investigation of the causes of the fire and the assessment of the actual damage caused by the fire to the market.
